Usually described as a Chicago journalist who wrote several anecdotal works between 1879 and 1891. The Chicago Daily News Almanac of 1896 lists a "Maitland, James", veteran journalist, as having died in Elgin on August 9 1895. Seems at least possible that one can write Maitland (d.1895?) (establishing, among other things, even more likely PD-all-three-major-zones status here. Not unknown for people to live to 1943+ and for such a book to be non-PD-EU(-at present) so good to get some idea, anyway! ) No rating yet, but will read soon- sorry!!
